火宫殿火神庙里供奉的火官重黎，俗称“火神”、“祝融”、“赤帝”。西汉史学家司马迁所著《史记》中，有“重黎为帝喾居火正（火官），甚有功，能光融天下，帝喾命曰祝融”的记载；《左传·昭公十七年》载：“炎帝从火纪，故为火师而火名”，故有炎帝亦火神之说。

Zhongli, known as Huoshen(measn God of Fire), Zhurong or Chidi(also called Red Emperor), is worshiped in Temple of Fire in Huogongdian. According to Records of the Historian written by Sima Qian, a famous historian in the West-Han Dynasty, Zhong Li was an officer who was in charge of fire during the Emperor Ku period (Emperor Ku was one of the five emperors in antediluvian period in China.). Zhong Li lit the whole world so Emperor Ku named him Zhu Rong as a reward for his contributions. While according to the seventeenth year of Duke Zhao’time in Zuo Commentary about Spring and Autumn Annals, Emperor Yan (also one of the five emperors in antediluvian period in China) recorded events by fire, so he was named after fire. Therefore, Emperor Yan was also considered as Huoshen, which is God of Fire.

据考，长沙火神庙（今火宫殿）早在明万历五年（公元1577年）《长沙府志》中即有记载。后经历代改建，规模不断扩大，其祭拜者络绎不绝，香火旺盛。特别是2001年来，长沙火宫殿有限公司投入巨资对火宫殿多次改扩修饰，以“修旧如旧”为指导方针，恢复火神庙原有古朴典雅、庄严肃穆的风貌。每逢火神圣诞（农历六月二十三日），火宫殿举行盛大祭祀礼仪，重大节日举办火宫殿庙会，参加者、逛庙会者日均高达2万余人。今天，以火神庙为主体的火宫殿，已成为古城长沙城市中心区唯一仅存的集观古览胜、品尝美食、旅游休闲的好去处。

According to the research, temple of fire in Changsha, which is Huogongdian today, is recorded in Records of Changsha as early as the fifth year of Wanling period of Qing Dynasty (A.D.1577). After successive generations of reconstruction, the scale continues to expand, attracting continuous worshipers and an endless stream of pilgrims. Especially since 2001, taking "repairing it to its original appearance" as the guideline, Changsha Huogongdian Co., Ltd. invested a lot of money to modify and restore it back to the primitive, elegant and solemn style of the Temple of Fire.
